BONELA Applauds Public Accounts Committee

The Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA) applauds the Public Accounts Committee for the commendable job it did in holding public servants to account for the administration of the public coffers.

Speaking on behalf of the organization, BONELA Executive Director, Mr. Uyapo Ndadi said that the organization recognises and appreciates the Government of Botswana for acceding to the call for the committee meetings to be held publicly, and that this was an indicator of a transparent government. Ndadi also said that; “BONELA highly commends the level of interrogation displayed by the committee in executing its task to ensure accountability of those in office to public funds. In particular, the Chairperson proved to be made of sterner stuff and is holding the forte with all the respect, dignity, diligence and intelligence such a position demands.”

Ndadi also said that BONELA has constantly called for access to information on public spending, especially in the ministry of health. He added that such forums, in lieu of the passing of an Access to Information Act, are one of the ways government can encourage accountability and transparency s a democratic nation.
