us
Established in 2002, the Botswana Network on Ethics, Law and HIV/AIDS (BONELA) is a Not For Profit, non-governmental organisation, registered under the Societies Act as a health and human rights organization whose vision is to ‘Make the Right to Health a Reality in Botswana’. BONELA’s mission is to ensure promotion, protection and fulfilment of the right to health.
BONELA works to promote health and well-being of key and vulnerable groups- Children, Women, Migrant workers, LGBTI community; Men who have Sex with Men (MSM), Female Sex Workers (FSW), Adolescents, People Living with HIV (PLWHIV), People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) and Prisoners. The aim of BONELA’s interventions is to address structural barriers which hinders access to health services by key and vulnerable groups.

Objectives
Strategic Objective 1:
To promote and ensure adherence, compliance, and enforcement of policies and legal instruments that support and promote the right to health.
Strategic Objective 2:
To strengthen the capacity of BONELA to adopt, plan, and deliver human rights-based interventions targeting key and vulnerable populations.
Strategic Objective 3:
To improve access to human rights-based services by key and vulnerable populations.
Strategic Objective 4:
To strengthen and scale up innovative community-based, and community-led interventions that contribute to the realization of the right to health.
Strategic Objective 5:
To strengthen national, regional, and international strategic partnerships and alliances necessary to support and promote the right to health in Botswana.

Our Guiding
Principles
To deliver on its mandate, ensure progress towards the realisation of the vision, effective and efficient implementation of the strategic objectives BONELA will hold itself and other stakeholders accountable to fulfil their duty-bearer roles and obligations in service delivery to key populations. Accountability will be premised on the principles of trust, transparency, shared and common interests, wise use resources. This will be further guiding by the principles indicated in the Figure 5.
Service delivery will be people centred, gender and human rights sensitive and responsive, non-stigmatizing and discriminatory, and will aim at removing social, human rights, policy, and legal barriers to access and utilisation. BONELA will not only advocate for, but also strengthen meaningful engagement and participation by key and vulnerable populations.
